Summary of Changes

Below we have listed the major fundamental changes to the Laws. We have not included minor wording changes as this would make the document too long.
Reference to governing body variations have been replaced by Domestic Regulations.

Law Amendments and Additions
Law 5 – References to Indoor and Outdoor variations have been removed.
Law 5.7 – Boundary peg should be straightened by the umpire before deciding on line bowls or   jack.
Law 5.8 – Boundary peg should not be moved to its former position until an end is ompleted.
Law 8.1.8 – Use of stickers has been clarified.
Law 8.3 – Challenge to set of bowls has been amended
Law 8.6.4 – Painted dimples and rings on bowls is permitted.
Law 14.2 – Changes to the format of pairs play, now permissible to change the order of play    at discretion of controlling body
Law 15.1 – Sets play law has been rewritten and is clearer
Law 17.1 – Domestic Regulations – replaces National Variations
Law 17.2 – Conditions of play – stipulations for competition rules.
Law 18.1 – Trial Ends:   More detail included on how trial ends are played:
   should be played on the same rink as the game,
   up to the same number of bowls to be used in the game can be used,
   combinations of sets of bowls can be used,
   position of mat and jack cannot be moved during the ends.
Law 19.1.3 – If the mat is incorrectly placed and the jack is delivered the opposing player will    reset the mat and deliver the jack but not bowl first.
Law 19.2.5 – If a bowl from a neighbouring rink is likely to hit the mat, the mat can be lifted to   allow the bowl to pass.
Law 20.1 – Position on the mat: a player, before delivery, must be standing on the mat with one foot fully on the mat. At the moment of delivery all or part of one foot    should be on or over the mat.
Law 21.4 – if a player foot-faults whilst delivering the jack, and has been warned, the jack has been improperly delivered and the opposing player re-delivers it.
Law 22.5 – If the jack has been delivered by the wrong player and only one bowl has been delivered then the correct team will restart the end.
Law 22.6 – If the jack has been delivered by the wrong player and one bowl each has been played  then the end continues in that order.
Law 27.3 – the final decision of skips on dead bowls has been removed.
Law 28.1 – Displacement by Player has been rewritten and is clearer
Law 28.3.2 - Displacement of a bowl in original course that has disturbed the head before it is displaced has been added.
Law 28.4.2 – If a bowl is displaced by a marker it should be replaced by agreement of the players otherwise the marker shall replace it.
Law 28.5 – Displacement by rebounding non-toucher has been improved
Law 30.2 – A jack is not dead if it rests on top of a toucher in the ditch or on top of bowls on the rink.
Law 31.3 – After a dead end bowls should be carried back up the green.
Law 33.1.2 – Displacement of jack in motion has been rewritten and is clearer
Law 33.3.2 – Jack displaced by neutral object or person has been improved.
Law 33.4.2 – If a Jack is displaced by the marker when measuring it should be replaced by agreement of the players, if they can’t agree the marker should replace the jack.
Law 33.5.3 – jack displacement by non-toucher amended
Law 34.2.2 – If a player delivers a bowl before the previous one has come to rest he can be warned on the first occasion and on subsequent occasions the bowl can be declared dead.
Law 36.2 – Player position in relation to neighbouring rink:
   Player can’t go into neighbouring rink even if it is not in use, this also includes the    section on the side of a green.
Law 37.1.4 – If a decision made by the skips is not in line with the laws the umpire can overrule that decision
Law 38.3 – Blind bowlers can use assistance where necessary
Law 41.4 – If the first end of a game is tied, the first to play in that end plays first in the second end
Law 45.6 – If an extra end is declared dead the first to play in that end shall start the end again.
Law 47.3.2 – In a resumed game a player can use a different set of bowls.
Law 49.2 – If a bowl which is struck splits into pieces the end should be declared dead
Law 49.3 – The damaged bowl should be replaced by a bowl from the same set before the start of the replayed end.
Law 49.5 – If the bowl cannot be replaced from the same set then all the bowls must be replaced by a different set.
Law 54 – Deliberate non-sporting action has been added
